This Type 2 board supports a PCIe short card, usually in PCIe x8,
x4, and x1 configurations. While the carrier board is equipped
with a PCIe x16 connector, it communicates at x4 speeds. Most PCIe
boards, though rated at x16 or x8, will “train” down
to x4 or x1 speeds. This allows the carrier board to be used universally
as long as the board fits into the short card form factor.
